Pre-Primary to Year 2 Program

PP-Year 2

The Pre-primary to Year 2 programs at the NEMLDC are designed to support young learners in developing strong language and literacy skills. The school has developed tailored programs for specific language areas, such as narrative, semantics, comprehension, grammar and social skills to meet the needs of students. The InitiaLit literacy program is delivered across all classes, which focuses on building foundational reading and writing skills through structured phonics and language activities.

At the NEMLDC, the Western Australian curriculum is taught with a strong emphasis on oral language development. This is achieved through the use of an integrated planner, which ensures that oral language skills are embedded across all learning areas. The planner allows teachers to design lessons that actively promote speaking, listening, and communication, while also addressing other key curriculum outcomes. By prioritising oral language, students develop essential skills that support their overall academic progress and social interaction.

Students in Pre-primary to Year 2 at the North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre participate in a variety of typical school activities, including swimming lessons, sports carnivals, assemblies, Book Week, and special days like Harmony Day. They also take part in excursions and incursions, which provide hands-on learning experiences. These activities offer students opportunities to engage with their peers, develop new skills, and connect with the wider school community in meaningful ways.
