Student Support Team
The student support team at the NEMLDC is made up of a dedicated group of professionals, including speech and language officers (speech pathologists), a speech and language specialist (senior speech pathologist), a lead education assistant (EA), a language and literacy specialist (senior teacher), and an occupational therapist (OT). This team works collaboratively to monitor each student’s progress towards their goals, ensuring targeted support is provided. They oversee and implement interventions tailored to individual needs, ensuring students receive the appropriate strategies and resources to progress in their learning journey
At the NEMLDC, speech pathologists support year level cohorts of students to provide a consistent approach to programming support. They provide services across all tiers of intervention, with a particular focus on working closely with teaching staff, to support the delivery of high quality, evidence-based instruction for all students.
Additional Support Roles
School Psychologist
The school psychologist at NEMLDC provides support to students who require it, following a referral process. They assess emotional, social, and cognitive development, working closely with teachers and other professionals to identify learning barriers. The psychologist then provides recommendations and individualised strategies for promoting emotional well-being to help students overcome challenges and fulfil their potential academically.
Student Wellbeing Officer
The school’s Student Wellbeing Officer provides essential support for students’ emotional and mental health. They offer one-on-one counselling, help students navigate challenges such as anxiety or stress, and provide guidance on developing positive coping strategies. The officer also works closely with teachers and parents to create a supportive environment for students and ensures they have access to resources that promote their overall wellbeing. Their role is vital in helping students build resilience and maintain a healthy mindset.
Aboriginal and Islander Educational Officer (AIEO)
An Aboriginal and Islander Educational Officer (AIEO) supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in schools by promoting their cultural identity, wellbeing, and academic success. The AIEO works closely with students, families, and staff to ensure that cultural perspectives are integrated into the learning environment. They provide guidance and advocacy, helping students navigate challenges and access support services. The AIEO plays a key role in fostering a culturally inclusive environment and ensuring that Indigenous students have the resources and opportunities to thrive.
