Supporting our parents
The NEMLDC aims to empower caregivers to contribute to their child’s learning by developing the skills to support the development of speech, language and communication skills.
We recognise that a parent is their child’s first and most important teacher and therefore we must establish an effective collaborative working relationship with them. Successful partnerships are based on empathy, trust and honesty. Parents within the school community have different levels of knowledge and skills related to speech and language. It is imperative that parents be given appropriate opportunities and guidance in how to best help their child achieve their goals.
Each year workshops are offered to parents in the areas of an introduction to our speech and language programs, social skills, semantics, numeracy, a transition information session and an Open Day for prospective parents.
